We are proud to annouce that we have signed on as the first VetCorps host site in Virginia! For the next 12 months we will be part of a national movement!

For those who need a little background: VetCorps is a pilot project–geared toward building community supports around military families and veterans–as part of the national partnership between CADCA (Community Anti Drug Coalitions of America) and the Community for National & Community Service (CNSC, AmeriCorps). The goal of the project is to establish a network of resources, service providers, employment and skill building opportunities, and general support to both active military families, and those of veterans. To accomplish this, we would recruit and train an individual to serve as a VetCorps member (staff). The project is promised to last until August 2014–with the possibility of 2 more years.
Our Director, Nancy Hans, and I have been in touch with a local network of former DOD contracted counselors, representatives of the VA in Salem, and various individuals currently serving on active duty. We know there is a need–and now we just need to get the right person in the role.
As you can imagine, there is a monetary obligation that the Council would be responsible for once we bring in a VetCorps member; so, we want to make very certain that we are doing everything we can do to find the right candidate for the job, but also to recruit advisors who can help us make the most of 12 months. We are interested in collaboration–not recreating the wheel!  Please check out the link below to apply.
The application process is a little confusing–so please contact Brittany Sandidge @ bsandidge@pc4y.org  if you have any questions or need help with the application process.
Please help us spread the word–and when the time comes–to help us welcome a new member of the team!
Thank you for all of your support.
