Four Community Prevention Coalitions have been established in Roanoke County to involve parents, youth, school, business, faith, and other community leaders in local strategies that provide youth with safe and healthy neighborhoods. Coalitions include North County, South County, East County, and Glenvar.
The Council offers "Guiding Good Choices" a five session class for parents of 9-14 year olds. This class is proven to help reduce high risk youth behaviors and provide ideas to increase communication within the family. For more information go to Parent Connection Page.
The Council supports training and formation of Youth Leadership teams to empower youth and to promote leadership skills that prevent under age drinking and other high risk youth behavior. For more information go to Youth Leadership Opportunities.
Each fall, the Council hosts a regional Prevention First conference that brings national experts together with individuals in the Roanoke Valley who are committed to promoting the healthy development of our youth. The conference provides a unique opportunity for parent, professionals, youth and community leaders to learn about nation trends and organize together for community based action.
