Save Your Tail-Gate Campaign

By the end of the week we will know who won the save the tail gate competition but we celebrated with a Great Job cake today anyways.  Our students went above and beyond to try to win a party for our school.  Some of the things they did were posters, bulletin board display, pledges, 3 seatbelt checks, flyers, window decals, table tents for the lunch tables, announcements, the marquee, message in So Salem and on their blog too.  Green out day, banner, key chains and footballs at the foot ball game.  We are so proud of all they accomplished in 3 weeks.

Red Ribbon Week

MS  - SCA are doing 5 skits and they are having a sidewalk chalk contest with RRW messages.  The will also be voting on the best poster award at lunch and giving out smarties.  We are dropping the 5th quarter party until later in the year.

HS – Making RRW t-shirts to wear on Wednesday.  Voting on poster contest, handing out smarties at lunch.  Guess how many fireballs are in the jar with message, announcements.

Wrecked Car

Unfortunately we could only get the wrecked car 10/19 for one day so signs are being made tonight and we are putting them up in the AM leading to the wrecked car.

Middle School Empowerment Training

Now November 18th at the NSMS.  Students will be there to talk about their presentation, how they do it and why with MS students.

Pregnancy Book Mark Contest

We will be helping with the pregnancy book mark contest again this year.  The students would like this to happen through English class so we are going to talk to Mr. Hafey about that.  It will be the first two week so November.  Might ask health classes to promote as well.

Community Meeting

Students didn’t want to wait until after the first of the year so we are going to see if we can get the auditorium the first week of December.  Idea’s for this meeting aside from giving out YRBS stats are as follows:

More interaction with audience.
Texting survey’s again
Cover parent information
Write skit(s) about choices student have to make, possibly get Franco’s classes involved.
Get parents opinion poll then give them reality
Do a game like the Newlywed Game but with parent/child teams with YRBS stats
Short survey at the beginning of the meeting
Address perceptions of parental approval

Talent Show

This will be the first week of February.  Possible theme for this is Start with Who You Aren’t or I know who I’m not, or some take on that.  Kopper’s is donating money for t-shirts so we are working on a design for that as well.  May tie it into the talent show theme.

YOVASO

The group has decided to combine the efforts of the coalition and YOVASO.  We have discussed the possibility of a name change but nothing was decided.  We will maintain the monthly meetings with the middle school as part of the community action team but will use the Thursday club time to get projects completed.

Issues this year

The students have indicated that tobacco, marijuana use and alcohol use remain the area that they see the greatest issue.  There is some concern about the use in and around school hours as well.

Youth Chairpersons

Mandy and Kendall have agreed to serve as co-presidents for the group.  Caryn will act as VP, Anna as secretary, Andrew as the MS President, Mandy as the 12 grade rep, Kenna as the 11th grade rep, Katie as the 10th grade rep, Anna as the 9th grade rep, Andrew as the 8th grade rep and Ben as the 7th grade rep.  The officers will be responsible for overseeing many of this years project as well as helping with passes etc.  The reps will be responsible for sharing information with their SAC, SCA, in their grades.
